Feedback from event coordinators and runner/viewers (on file at rosmd@everestkc.net )

I receive some very nice comments and sometimes folks actually send me postal thank you's. Here are a few of the emails from recent weeks. As I always told my kids when they were young "it is nice to be thanked".

I don’t know you but I’ve seen you out at all the runs imaginable over the last few years I’ve lived here. I just wanted to wish you well with your recovery from back surgery and to say thank you for all you’ve done for the running community and especially for the seekcrun website. As a former back surgery person, I understand the discomfort you’re in.Good luck and heal well!C.L-

Just saw your note about back surgery. I enjoy your site so much and think it is such a generous thing you do for all us runners. Thank  you and get well soon.J.W.

Hi Mr Ross!
Thanks again for your wonderful pictures from Tarmac Run. Awesome pics of my daughter...You're the bomb!    :-) R.S.

My wife and I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you how much we appreciate what you add to our events.  We have just moved here from NM and were extremely pleased to have someone as positive as you present at the Clinton Cross Country Challenge.  It was our first race in Kansas and our hope is that your positive character will encourage others involved in the sport to be as encouraging and supportive as you were this past sunday.  Thank you again.

Sincerely,
H.and J.

Hi Dick--
Great pictures!  I'll email Gene Wee and have him post a link to your website with the pictures. We really appreciate you coming out.  Marcia says thanks for the hand warmers.

You do a great job with your pictures, website and newsletters.  We are hoping you are able to attend our events in 2008 because you add a lot of professionalism to our events and we really appreciate it. C.T.

I miss all my trail nerd friends and I miss seeing your smiling face at the events. I've often wondered how many people have decided to stick with running because they were inspired by an image you captured of them in action.
Thanks again for all you do and keep up the good work B.B.

Dick,
Thanks for the calendars!!!  And, for all you do and they way you do it!  Have a blessed holiday season and I can only pray I'm as active and adventurous as you when I turn T.J

Thank you very much for the 2008 Running calender you sent me.  I really
appreciate the calender and everything else you do for the KC running
community.Hope to see you at the Chili Run.D.

Dear Mr. Ross,

I mentioned to you during the Jingle Bell Run how much I appreciated your service to the running community. I have recently come back after a 10 year hiatus because my daughter wants to run. We never had this service before and honestly my running scrapbook has few pictures in it except the ones my dad took in high school and some fuzzy shots from "professional" photographers. Your pictures are great and I am looking foward to working on my daughtr's running scrapbook. Thanks to you, it will have plenty of really good pictures in it.
                                                    Sincerely,
                                               R.S
                                          ( Audrey's mom )

I just wanted to send a personal "thank you" for offering up your photos for free on the internet.  What a wonderful gift to give the particpants of these races!  I ran the Turkey Trot yesterday and it was so fun to see pictures (and so soon!) from that event--I never even would have thought to bring a camera so having pictures is a real treat.

Thanks for all you do!C.

  • Thank you so much, I did receive all of the photos and greatly appreciate your assistance.  Have a wonderful weekend, for once it won't be in the triple digits.  I have to say we were lucky on our race this year, we got it
in before the heat wave started.R.
  • Dear Dick,
I just got the murals, and they are gorgeous!  I will give one to N.K. who is the director of Health Care Access Clinic, and we will use one at all the events we go to. Thank you so much for being so kind and considerate,
    You are the best!! M.
  • Dick, thanks so much for helping make our run a success!  I've had lots of favorable comments about having you and BJ.  Our "wrap up" meeting for this year's run will be next week; we had a mini-meeting after the run to talk about next year already.  I know you and BJ will be asked to return. Thanks again for your help and support of our race!   E.Y.
  • We would love it if you could be at our family oriented, fun event to capture the moment as these young ladies celebrate successful completion of the fall program.  Mr. Ross, we so appreciate your support and all that you do for the Kansas City Metropolitan running community, and I personally look forward to seeing your smiling face at a race and thank you for providing my picture memories! C.J.
  • Many thanks for that magnificent collage of the Heartland Run. Keep clicking. Your are an important asset
    to running.

  • I participated in the Race for Hope 5K yesterday. I first want to say that the photographer, I forget his name, did an excellent job taking photos! Also, do you publish the times and rankings of the finishers online as well? B.M.
Thanks for the great work with the photos!
  • Dick, you do a great job and perform a great service to the running
community.  Our sport is considered by the professional big time news
media as amateur and consequently does not get the coverage that
professional sports do, a la the Chiefs, Royals, Wizards, etc.  So
without you and your site many events would go unnoticed and unreported
by any press. Keep up the good work and I wish you well my friend......
    D.R.
  • You do such a great job at our events of making each participant that you shoot feel special that is a trait about you that I personally just love.  We are very appreciative of your commitment to our events Dick and hope that you continue to keep us on your schedule each year. J.L.
  • I can't speak for everyone, but as an athlete (and volunteer yesterday) I enjoy your enthusiasm, your willingness to support our events, and the great fun you bring to the race venues.  You are truly appreciated - keep up the great work!!  A.G.
  • Absolutely awesome, Dick. The pictures, the music, the memories...
You did a great job (AS ALWAYS) of capturing the spirit of the event.
I need to go get a Kleenex now.
Thank you, again and again, for providing your service to the community,
    J.T.
  • Good evening Dick:
I just want to drop you this brief note to express my appreciation ( along with the entire tri -athletes) for lasting the seven hours you spent taking great photos as you usually do. With temperatures in the 90's you were certainly a trooper.
Thanks again. See you at the underground run.
    best - J.F.
  • I am not sure how to contact the man who was taking the pictures at the summer sizzler last sat pm----but i just wanted to say a HUGE thank you.  It was my little sisters first run and we wouldn't have had a pic w/o you!  It's now framed on my desk for life! You're fantastic.  Thanks
  • Thank you for being at Camp WIN to photo graph the girls. We appreciate it and I know the parents are going to love the pics!

  • i Dick,I’m back from Africa and was greeted by your wonderful marathon murals.  Thank you so much, it was really fun to look at all the photos (and I saw you even got me in a couple!).  You are much appreciated!  Best, B.W.
  • Just read your editorial, Dick, and it is informative and thought-provoking.  I remember the Fuller Brush man, too, and look at the freebies in our running packets.  The last paragraph is very good.  We are lucky in KC to have such fine photographic coverage of many, many running events and I personally appreciate having you as a resource for running event photos.  There seems to be room and demand for several photographers. A spirit of cooperation would be a positive thing.   A.N.
  • Hi Dick.  You are sooo right in what you said about the freebies!  I did the annual Humane Socitey Dog n' Jog last Sunday, and I distinctly remember seeing the photog from XXXX Photographic there, and thinking well, there
won't be many personal human-(or should I say "dog") interest photos here. Looked for you but did not see you, and frankly I wouldn't blame you because my dog Sandy and I ran the last two laps of the 2-miler in POURING down rain, which felt good to us, but probably not to onlookers or photogs.  Keep up the good work.  You provide a very much appreciated service to the running community. J.M.

Thanks for the newsletter, Dick. I think what you do is a great "model" for other photographers. Hopefully, they will get the hint. R
  • Thanks Dick!  Once again you have out did yourself.  Not only did you take great pictures but you endured the heavy rain.B.S.
  • Thanks again for coming out yesterday and taking pictures of our event we appreciate that very much.  I am looking forward to seeing your pictures.  We will see you at the Shawnee Mission Tri. C.T.
  • Hi!  Thanks for what you do!  You provide an amazing service S.R.
  • thanks Dick and you are performing a great community service for the runners ! G.G.

  • Thank you for taking these pictures!  You are awesome!  I can't believe you provide them for free.  I lost my camera at the race and without you I would have to pay $20 for one picture of the event.  Thanks again. H.T.

  • Thank you so much for the service you offer of pictures of area runs.  I loved reliving Brew to Brew through your photo gallery T.D.
  • I got the CD in the mail and I really appreciate you providing that to us. I will see you at future races and spread the word of your web-site.D.Y.

  • Dick,Wow…I just picked up the poster you delivered to UPS. Thank you so much. This is a real boost to me as I’m working to pull this event together. It’s so great to see all the happy faces and all the people participating together. Also, I will put this up at my church to help inspire people to get out and walk or run K.

  • The following is an email thread that covers two message...I laughed out loud!
Don, don't we look like we are having fun!!!!!  This picture is in the slide show at www.seekcrun.com that means we made the big time!!!

Actually, you do. And - I can print it!  In living color yet! This is so cool!

Your photographs add a more personal touch that others don't provide when just capturing a runner in stride or at the finish line. When you get the people enjoying the course as well as each other's company before and after the event, you're not only showing more of the area that people have memories of, but you're also capturing more of what what many are enjoying. I think only those who do the events for fun and enjoyment will truly appreciate that aspect while those who do the events for personal challenge or even for personal gain probably enjoy photos of themselves in action.B.R.

The cd you gave me of the Heartland Run was excellent.  Keep up the good work . J.M.

I appreciate your photos and judging by what you have told me about the number of hits you have, others do also. R.N.

I think your candid and group shots are great ... S.R.

I can only say great things about what your pictures and slides shows have done for our events. I can’t tell you how much I was impressed the first time I saw your website and all the pictures that you took. There’s a WOW feeling each time I look at all the happy faces of our participants. J.T.

Your photos are very personal to the running experience, unlike other "bib number" photographers.  Going the extra step of sending a disc to me for the last run was simply awesome.  What can we do for you? B.H.

  • Dick Ross, one of our newest members of the club (Welcome aboard Dick), created the attached slide show so we can all share the fond memories. Even if you had other commitments, we still want you to see the smiling faces of your fellow club members. Dick has a real talent for catching us in the good poses! (My pleasure)
  • Great to meet you at the marathon last Saturday. What a magnificent day! Thanks for your willingness to send me a disc of your work. I'm really looking forward to it! Mailing address is:B.W. ( I gave full permission to use the photos as he wished (next year's brochure, web site, Power Point for sponsors, etc., you see, my interest is getting sponsors for the web site so that no one pays anything)

September Comments

  • I just read on the website a little bit about you. I didn’t' realize you are doing this for free! That is cool that you are using your talents to give back to others by taking the time to travel to all the races and maintain the website - my hat off to you. Keep up the good work! (Actually I do sell a photo or two (most everyone likes the free photo, but it gives me gas money! and after the first of the year I plan to ask for sponsor money)
  • It’s good to see someone consistently shooting photos at local races. I know you’re just one guy who has a lot of ground to cover and your post race photos are great. Speaking as a racing scene regular, what I’d rather see and would be more inclined to pay for (I know we can download free small prints) would be photos from out on the course (i.e. running/racing pictures). Thanks for what you’re doing and hope to see you more out on the course! S.D. (I will certainly try to do better getting the "action" shots...courses that lap past the finish line make it easier...)
  • Thanks for all the time and effort you have put into sharing the on-line running event photos. If I could just make one suggestion it would be to have more action (running) photos. I know that the races go by fast and you do what you can but the running shots are the best!!!!K.B.
  • Thanks so much for coming out to Head for the Cure 5k again this year. You photos are always just fabulous. K.A.
  • I did want you to know I appreciated the pictures, and I missed seeing you at the Helen Gold race on Sunday
